By unraveling institutional exclusion We Are Here Lobbyist intensify the pressure on civil servants, policy makers, politicians as well as artists, obliging them to improve Dutch and EU migration policies.
As the Dutch law deprives undocumented refugees from any human right, that same law allows for all human beings to “create”. As such, a performance was developed using the predominantly white/elitist context of the renowned Jan van Eyk Academy as artistic “legal” stage: Ironically, it is only as “artistic performers” —that is, in the symbolic realm— the people of We Are Here are allowed to exercise their expertise. For simultaneously, it leaves one with a feeling of unease to ‘present’ the group in an exhibition space, or, from the perspective of the audience with a feeling of voyeurism.
Performance, Commissioned by Elke Uitentuis and executed with representatives of We Are Here.
